about

Literary Matters is a site for casual readers and bibliophiles alike. We recommend great books to read, to share, to buy, and to give. Purchase books directly from our online store, search our booklists for your next page-turner, inspire your group discussions, help your children discover the joy of reading. We celebrate the talents of great writers, hosting events where they share with us in an intimate setting. From eminent to emergent authors, from classics to soon-to-be-bestsellers, for bookish introverts and raucous book groups, we celebrate all Literary Matters....

Esther Bushell is a book group facilitator whose opinions and perspectives are sought by leading publishers, including Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Harper Collins. Her 20+ book groups across Fairfield County, CT and Westchester, NY are at capacity, and the author events she hosts several times a year have become a special treat for her dedicated following of readers.

Esther has been featured in major and regional media such as The New York Times, Good Morning America, National Public Radio (NPR), and Greenwich Magazine. Recognized for her expertise in book group facilitation, she was a BEA panelist (Book Group Facilitators Sound Off!), and soon will be cited in Stevie Pierson¹s new book, WHAT TO DO WHEN NO ONE HAS A CLUE.

Book groups and facilitating are Esther's second career. She was an English teacher in the Greenwich, CT public schools for forty years; her Honors American Lit. class was one of the most highly requested courses at Greenwich High School. After introducing the joys of literature and challenging her students to think critically, as she approached retirement, she was called on by her former students, now adults involved in their own book groups, to facilitate and lead their discussions.

Esther is also the coordinator for Community Reads!, an annual event at the Perrot Memorial Library in Old Greenwich, CT; this program has gained a loyal following and has brought authors such as Julie Otsuka and Pulitzer prize winner Elizabeth Strout before capacity audiences.

Interested in having Esther faciliate a book group meeting, sit on a panel, or offer up her advice for your reading group?  Reach her directly at esther@literarymatters.net.

Kate Osborn has always loved reading, and is thrilled to be able to help Esther with her website. Having studied Ancient History at St. Andrews University, Kate moved to the United States seven years ago, and now works in Manhattan in the art world. The upside to commuting to the city? Having the opportunity to read the latest books suggested by Esther! The downside? Ending up in Stamford having missed the station stop because she was engrossed in the latest book suggestion from Esther!

If you have any questions about the website you can reach me at kate@literarymatters.net
